Remove Unwanted Ink Safely with the Latest Picosecond Technology
At Laser Clinic Richmond, we offer advanced tattoo removal using the Leonidas Meditech Picosecond Laser – the world’s first multi-picosecond system designed to break down tattoo pigment faster and more efficiently. Whether you want a tattoo fully removed or lightened for a cover-up, we personalise every treatment based on your skin type, tattoo colour, depth, and your end goal.
Our laser delivers ultra-short pulses that shatter ink into tiny particles, allowing your immune system to clear them naturally. This means faster fading, fewer sessions, and reduced discomfort compared with older nanosecond (Q-Switched) lasers.

What Tattoos Can We Treat?
We treat a wide range of tattoo types:
Professional & Amateur Tattoos
Black, coloured & layered tattoos
Cover-up tattoos
Cosmetic tattoos
How Pico Tattoo Removal Works
Tattoo ink particles are fragmented into microscopic pieces using high-energy picosecond pulses.
Different wavelengths target specific ink colours for optimal clearance:
1064 nm
black, dark blue, most deep colours
650 nm
dark green pigments
532 nm
cosmetic tattoos, red/orange pigments
585 nm
aqua/sky-blue tones
These wavelengths allow us to effectively treat multicoloured tattoos and cosmetic tattoos when suitable.
Every tattoo is unique
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Most clients require 6–10 sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart.
Treatment time depends on:
Tattoo size and location
Whether the tattoo was professionally applied
Ink colour and depth
Your immune system and healing response
Age of the tattoo (older tattoos fade faster)
What to Expect During Treatment
• The area is cleansed and prepped.
• Protective eyewear is worn.
• We perform a series of laser pulses over the tattoo.
• Immediate whitening/frosting may appear – a normal clinical response.
• Post-treatment cooling soothes the skin.
Treatment time ranges from 5–30 minutes depending on tattoo size.
Does It Hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping on the skin. Picosecond lasers tend to be more comfortable due to shorter pulse duration and reduced heat retention.
We provide cooling throughout your session to minimise discomfort.
To ensure safety and effective results:
Pre-Treatment Requirements
• Avoid sun exposure or fake tan for 4 weeks prior.
• Area must be clean-shaven.
• No active infection, wounds, or irritation in the area.
• No isotretinoin (Accutane) use within 6 months.
• Inform us of any medications or history of scarring/keloids.
A test patch may be required before your first full session.

Aftercare Instructions
Proper aftercare ensures optimal healing:
• Apply cool compresses as needed.
• Keep the area clean; wash gently with mild soap.
• Avoid picking scabs or blisters.
• Do not shave if crusting is present.
• Avoid soaking (baths, pools) until healed.
• Avoid sun exposure; apply SPF 30+ daily.
Temporary side effects may include redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, blistering, or scabbing – these resolve naturally.
Is Tattoo Removal Safe for All Skin Types?
Our Leonidas Pico system allows treatment across a wide range of Fitzpatrick skin types. However, darker skin tones may require more conservative parameters and longer intervals to minimise risks of pigmentation changes.
We thoroughly assess your skin during consultation.
Risks & Contraindications
Tattoo removal may not be suitable if you:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Take photosensitising medications
• Have active infections in the area
• Have seizure disorders triggered by light
• Are prone to keloid scarring
